The history of a work often survives in fragments: photographs on a phone, a sketch in a drawer, a publication buried in social media and buyer conversations that later disappear.
If the work is resold without attribution, copied, shown under another name or separated from its Certificate, how do you show the history of this particular work? YOU™ is designed to create that record before information is lost.
Copyright and documentation are not the same thing
Copyright may arise automatically under applicable law. But owning a right and being able to document the relevant facts are different things.
A structured record helps answer who created the work, when it was created, which files relate to it, what the original looked like, what materials and dimensions were recorded, whether a Certificate was issued and whether recorded ownership changed.

Registration Is Not Automatic
Every submission is reviewed before acceptance. Review can reduce avoidable risks, but it is not a judicial determination of authorship and cannot guarantee that no third party has competing rights.

Anyone can make a PDF. A YOU™ Certificate is connected to a live Registry record.
It includes a Certificate of Authenticity, unique Certificate number, downloadable PDF, QR verification, CERTIFIED status, issue date, extended record, provenance and Ownership Transfer functionality. A buyer can check the live record and current Certificate status.

Preserve Provenance After the Sale
When a certified work is sold or gifted, its recorded ownership can be transferred to the new owner. A later transfer can become another part of its provenance history.
Transfer of ownership of the physical artwork does not transfer copyright unless separately agreed between the parties.

Ownership Can Remain Private
A provenance system should not become a public database of collectors’ personal information. The public record can display Private Collection or Private Collection, Spain instead of the owner’s identity.
Private account information must not automatically become public. Where available, an owner may choose to publish additional information.
If something goes wrong
Registration Cannot Prevent Copying. It Can Help You Be Better Prepared.
No Registry, Certificate, NFC tag or legal document can physically prevent somebody from taking a photograph, reproducing an object or attempting to copy a design. The purpose is to organize relevant information before a problem occurs.
If your work is copied
- Preserve what you found.
- Save URLs, screenshots, dates and seller information.
- Preserve evidence relating to your own work.
- Do not destroy or modify original files.
- Consider the platform’s reporting procedure.
- Seek professional legal advice where necessary.
If someone uses your photographs
Another seller may use your images to advertise a copy, a different product, a made-to-order reproduction, a fraudulent listing or a product they never created.
Your record can help preserve the relationship between the work and submitted photographs. Preserve the suspected infringement before contacting the other party or requesting removal.

A registration is a record, not a race to click Submit. An earlier YOU™ registration does not automatically establish legal authorship.
A challenged record can enter a dispute procedure and, where appropriate, be marked UNDER REVIEW, SUSPENDED or REVOKED.

Serious commercial copying, repeated infringement, disputed authorship or cross-border cases may require professional assistance. YOU™ cooperates with independent legal agencies and legal professionals across EU countries.
Depending on the jurisdiction and circumstances, they may assist with initial assessment, copyright and authorship disputes, formal correspondence, cease-and-desist communication, marketplace claims, negotiations, settlements, pre-court resolution, evidence preparation, infringement claims and court proceedings where appropriate.
